Police say that she has confessed. Now investigators are asking the question- has she done it before?
Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Rossen has the story.
What's so scary is this family did everything right, followed all the rules, interviewed about 20 baby nurses and weeded them out very carefully. They say this one had, at the time at least, the best attitude and the best references.
As the mom of that little baby put it today, "We had no idea we were inviting a monster into our home.'
Vanessa Donohue, Mother: "She was five days old. She didn't have a chance. It's incomprehensible to me that anyone could do this to anyone, nevermind a little baby like this."
Sara Jane Donohue was so helpful and is so hurt, with severe brain damage, two broken collarbones and broken ribs. The baby nurse did it, and she confessed.
Noella Allick, hired to look after their baby, would instead shake her violently.
Patrick Donohue, Father: "The only thing they could tell us is that the injury on a scale of one to ten, you know, that it was an eight as far as severity of the injury it was an eight.
Sara's future, her development, is still unclear.
What's so scary is that Allick watched over babies in the area for years and her references were stellar. No one knew her secret.
Vanessa Donohue: "we had no idea she has evil in her heart. And we couldn't have known that."
Patrick Donohue: "There's no compassion for the monster."
But when Sara's pediatrician noticed a brain injury the investigation didn't take long. Allick confessed, telling police, "Sara wouldn't wake up to feed. I tried several things and I shook her hard. As the days past and I noticed she was limp I knew I hurt her, shaking her."
Allick has since confessed to shaking another baby in Nassau County, though she has not been charged. She is in jail, however, for shaking Sara, charged with assault and reckless endangerment. The damage is already done.
Sara's hand is in God's hands and that's why we're asking everybody to pray for her.
If that baby nurse has ever worked for you, worked in your home and looked after your baby, the Manhattan district attorney wants to hear from you.
